In Gothenburg, he met Miss Irene Andersson in her chemicals store on Veastergatan in Annedal.
Irene and John married in 1924, the same year he opened the firm Sponge Import Levanten, and his brother Nicolas came to Sweden.
John applied for Swedish citizenship in 1927, the resolution was issued by King Gustav V Adolf. Nicolas returned in 1934, married in Kalymnos and came back in 1938, his wife Sevasti came after World War 2 with their two children. 1947, they gave birth to their first child in Sweden.

In the 50's expanded motoring, Levantens motto became "a sponge in each car," and the company was entering a golden age, but in the 70s, the plastic sponge revolutionized the industry, the price difference was 1 SEK to 25 SEK, an impossible competitive position despite an unbeatable quality difference.
